My Head Is Swimming

So here is an excellent example of how all your hard work pays off. The days where something just clicks in that complicated little boy’s brain and he just “gets it.” Then the Hallelujah Chorus starts, the sky brightens and all is beautiful. Well at least in my head.

Mayor Bee, while he likes the water, loathed having water touch his head. Yeah, another sensory issue. You couldn’t even coax him to blow bubbles, and he’s been in the water since six months old. Washing his hair was an absolute nightmare; I really hope the neighbors don’t think we are doing some funky form of discipline on him.

We soldiered on and enrolled him in a new private swimming school. He’s been in mini camps for the past month and a half. And sometime around the second camp, the impossible happened – he went underwater. AND DIDN’T SCREAM. In fact, he did it again, a few more times, plus blew some bubbles. Holy F’in Bleep. It was a beautiful moment.

Then, an EVEN MORE AMAZING thing happened. The supervisor came over and said he accomplished the goals in this camp and “graduated”.

Certificate

Graduation!

So he gets to move on and try to tackle new skills. He got his picture taken, a prize from the “treasure chest” and a special necklace/keepsake. And, of course, a special ice cream dessert from Mommy and Daddy.

Obviously shocked that he graduated

About OneLoCoMommy

I live in Northern Virginia and and I look like the stereotypical suburban mom, for better or for worse. My son plays baseball and takes karate (albeit adaptive). My daughter is a gymnastics diva but rolls with the boys in T-ball. I've been a Room Mom and Playdate Coordinator. I work full-time, try to work out, and love my Book Club. However, I also blog on my experiences on our ASD, SPD and ADHD journey while trying to be a better parent advocate. All in a life's work.
