Summer Breeze…Makes Me Feel Fine

Happy Meterological Spring! It’s the perfect time to daydream about our next summer vacation.

This past year, we went to Sandbridge Beach, outside Virginia Beach for vacation. This was new for us. We had always been “those” OBX people. OBX still holds a special place for us – it’s where Husband proposed (off the Corolla Sound at sunset), it’s where we took Mayor Bee for his first beach experience, and it’s where I found out being pregnant with Mayita (yeah, funny story about that one). It’s also a dog friendly destination so Jack da dog always comes with us.

But last year, dare we say it, we were getting a bit bored with OBX. We needed a change. A friend suggested what is called, “The Outer Banks of Virginia”. She said that there were more things to do with the kids but yet still be able to have your own “space” on the beach. Plus, it’s cheaper she said. Ka-ching!

We rented a house on the beach. Literally, sitting on the beach. A few steps and you were out on the glorious sand. The weather was perfect; we even managed to miss a hurricane (that would be Irene). And, yes, there was plenty to do that didn’t require a whole lot of driving. Overall it was a great time.

Now, I just get to daydream while looking at pictures, waiting for our next trip. And putting on a sweater in the office because it’s so damn chilly.

One of the few sunrises I got to enjoy (you know since the kids were up anyway)

Just a Bee and his turtle

This is a great recommendation and I hope to see it for myself this summer. Since moving to Virginia, I have been helplessly searching for a piece of beach I could enjoy. Sure the shopping is fun but I really like rest and relaxation. Yeah, best naps EVER occur on the beach. I think it is scientific.

Our daughter lives in the Richmond area and we have a niece in Virginia Beach, so we travel to VA a couple of times a year. This is the first I’ve heard of The Outer Banks of VA, but it sounds like a great place to check out the next time we head South for a visit. I love the photo of your son and his turtle. He looks like the perfect embodiment of the all-American boy.

Stopping by from Mama Kat’s Workshop. I enjoyed reading about your summer memories and thanks for the heads up about Virginia’s version of OBX.
