So Far, So Good.

We are trudging along “vacation” as best as we can.

Because, you know, it isn’t really “vacation”. It’s more of a “scramble around to find activities to occupy the kid(s) so that they don’t go stir crazy and do something potentially dangerous” type of break.

B is on break until January 2nd. I know some parents in the school system are complaining because their kids have to go back “right after” the New Year. I, on the other hand, am ecstatic because that means we can try to get back to a routine sooner.

We got through Christmas relatively unscathed. Christmas Eve we got an unexpected snowfall so we did have a White Christmas (in DC, it’s a rare treat).

Enjoying a little winter fun, sans gloves.

What the hell is all this white stuff!

B got his wish of buses (four of them, if I counted right), little school, and other stuff. Mayita got a tea set, a Princess Castle, and a minivan, among her things. In classic fashion, B became fixated on the van. We didn’t open it during the day but it didn’t stop him from asking about it. Or trying to negotiate terms of “having his turn” and “we all should share”.

Seriously, sometimes I regret saying things like, “you need to share”.

Wednesday, I was back at work and Mayita was able to go back to daycare. Wednesday also provided us with yet another snowfall (mixed with rain, sleet and everything else). So while I got to plod through my workday, Husband took advantage of the weather and got B out sledding. In a nod to Max and Ruby, the hills near us are now known as “Rocket Run” and “Rocket Run 2”. The physical exertion was perfect for B who was able to get some energy burned.

Yesterday was “errand day” for Husband and B. They went all around town, ate at McDonald’s, and generally had a good day. At least that’s what I’m told. 😉

All in all, we are doing well, halfway through break. Knock on wood and let’s keep the streak going!

About OneLoCoMommy

I live in Northern Virginia and and I look like the stereotypical suburban mom, for better or for worse. My son plays baseball and takes karate (albeit adaptive). My daughter is a gymnastics diva but rolls with the boys in T-ball. I've been a Room Mom and Playdate Coordinator. I work full-time, try to work out, and love my Book Club. However, I also blog on my experiences on our ASD, SPD and ADHD journey while trying to be a better parent advocate. All in a life's work.
