Happy Birthday, Mayor Bee!

Happy Birthday, Mayor Bee.

Happy Birthday, Mayor Bee.

The time has flown.

Last night, while helping you get dressed for bed, I could really see how much you have grown. I’m sure I’ll repeat this statement for years to come…but wow, you have gotten so big! I get it – it’s corny – but it’s true.

I know you said that you’ll be five in four weeks ten weeks five days but you are five NOW.

In many aspects I am so proud of you. The progress you have made is incredible.

Yesterday, you went to a bounce house birthday party. You had no incidents PLUS you really socialized with your friend T. You made a new friend at the party table and didn’t shove anyone off the bounce throne. You gave hugs to the birthday girl and kissed another buddy on the cheek during the group hug.

It’s that type of normalcy that makes me sing a happy chorus.  It’s a day that I will cling to when we have our meltdowns/fits/timeouts.

Today I clearly lost my mind because not only did we take you to Chuck E Cheese, we then took you to Dairy Queen. We probably shouldn’t have, but did it anyway, because we knew you would enjoy the sensory overload. With exception to the toilets in CEC, of course.

Celebrating with a bowl full of sugar. Yep, that's how I roll.

And now you are sleeping, and all I can wish is that you will stay the sweet, inquistive little boy. We can tone down the echolalia a little bit, though. And we’ll work on that toilet thing.

So, Happy Birthday Mayor Bee. I hope the next year will bring you even more happiness!

About OneLoCoMommy

I live in Northern Virginia and and I look like the stereotypical suburban mom, for better or for worse. My son plays baseball and takes karate (albeit adaptive). My daughter is a gymnastics diva but rolls with the boys in T-ball. I've been a Room Mom and Playdate Coordinator. I work full-time, try to work out, and love my Book Club. However, I also blog on my experiences on our ASD, SPD and ADHD journey while trying to be a better parent advocate. All in a life's work.
