They Found Something.

My parents were supposed to come down this past weekend. They were going to visit my aunt (dad’s sister) and us (to belatedly celebrate Mayita’s birthday).

On Thursday night I talked to my dad. If you remember, he had a procedure done regarding his abdominal aortic aneurysm. He went for a follow-up CT Scan that day and was told he needed an endoscopy for his bile duct. They scheduled it for Friday (the next day), indicating there was some urgency in the matter.

True to my dad, he apparently had been having some issues (including jaundice) the past couple of weeks but never mentioned a word of it.

On Friday morning my mother calls from the hospital to tell me they have taken him back for the endoscopy. Then she lays the next bomb – that they are also taking a biopsy of his pancreas.

They found something.

There is a growth on his pancreas. They don’t know (and still don’t know) if it’s malignant or benign. Apparently it’s not a small one either. While nothing is for certain yet, I think it may be quite serious.

Tomorrow my parents will meet with a specialist at the hospital to find out the results of the biopsy.

As for the endoscopy itself, well, they put a stent in his bile duct and that has resolved the issue. He was able to go home that day and is trying to rest. When I say “trying”, I mean he mowed the lawn yesterday because my younger sister apparently didn’t do it right.

I live in Northern Virginia and and I look like the stereotypical suburban mom, for better or for worse. My son plays baseball and takes karate (albeit adaptive). My daughter is a gymnastics diva but rolls with the boys in T-ball. I've been a Room Mom and Playdate Coordinator. I work full-time, try to work out, and love my Book Club. However, I also blog on my experiences on our ASD, SPD and ADHD journey while trying to be a better parent advocate. All in a life's work.

I hope it is benign, too. We went through this with my mom 3 years ago…almost exactly. Keeping your dad and family in my prayers.
