It was a long holiday weekend for us – no rest for the weary, ya know. 🙂
B’s last karate class was first. Normally, we don’t have class after the school year ends. However, with a big tournament next weekend, Sensei K didn’t want the kids to have to come back after a skipped class. So, we had our last class during the holiday.
The surprise was that Sensei K and Sanpei V made up little certificates of completion! Since it was B’s second year, he actually got two for completing his Dankai. So that was a nice touch and a good finish.
TopSoccer – which was supposed to have ended already – had a makeup session and trophy “presentation” in the afternoon. Between karate and no nap, B was definitely misfiring during the session. It didn’t help that very few “Buddies” came (shocker being the holiday weekend) AND we had to go to a different field at the last minute. But he stuck through it and finished! He got a little trophy which he is VERY proud of.
Sunday was Autism Awareness Day at Nationals Park. Each MLB team hosts their own home game where there are discounted tickets available – with proceeds going towards Autism Speaks. So Sunday was the Nationals home game…except “we’re” Phillies fans. And even though we were technically in visitor section anyway, there were plenty of Nats fans out and about.
The weather was perfect – sunny and 70 degrees. We did much better than last year, or the year before. We actually stayed in our seats for most of the game! We did go into the reserved “Quiet Room” after the 7th inning stretch. It turned out to be a good thing, because that’s when the Phillies lost control of the game. And even though they lost, we “won” because there was minimal meltdowns (for both kids). Score!
With that said, Husband and I are going on our own getaway this week. Between what has happened already this year, and what I will have to face very soon, this trip is planned perfectly. 🙂
